چکیده
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is the major factor that limits maximum optical fiber output power in narrow linewidth applications, which include important fields such as passive networks (PONs), high-power amplifiers, and lasers. Great efforts have been dedicated to suppressing SBS effect increasing power. This paper focuses on key fiber-based techniques suppress SBS. These take advantages of properties fibers. We present how these (electric modes, acoustic material properties) could be utilized The are divided into transverse design, longitudinal variant external perturbations (strain temperature) Transverse design mechanism electro-acoustic interaction. Large effective area tailoring discussed. Longitudinal considers nonlinear interaction along propagation distance, various related presented. External fibers emphasize static modify effect.

Thermal Effects Study on Stimulated Brillouin Light Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fiber
we investigate the temperature-dependences of the Brillouin frequency shift in three different kind of single-mode fibers using a heterodyne method for sensing temperature. Positive dependences coefficients of 0.77, 0.56 and 1.45MHz/0C are demonstrated for 25 km long single-mode fiber, 10 km long non-zero dispersion shifted fiber and 100 m photonic crystal fiber, respectively. The results indic...

We report on an experimental analysis of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a 20-m-long highly birefringent microstructure fiber for sensing applications. In particular, an experimental setup based on Brillouin optical frequency-domain analysis, operating at a wavelength of 1550 nm, has been employed in order to analyze the distribution of Brillouin frequency shift along the fiber, as wel...
متن کاملPolarization attributes of stimulated Brillouin scattering slow light in fiber
The polarization-related properties of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) processes in long, randomly birefringent, standard optical fibers are examined. Evolution equations for the pump and signal waves, in the presence of both birefringence and SBS, are provided in Jones and Stokes spaces. It is shown that in the undepleted pump regime, the amplification of the SBS signal wave is equivalen...
متن کاملNear-forward Stimulated Brillouin Scattering
LLE Review, Volume 72 177 In stimulated Brillouin scattering1 (SBS) an incident (pump) light wave is scattered by the electron-density fluctuations associated with an ion-acoustic (sound) wave. This process generates a frequency-upshifted (anti-Stokes) light wave and a frequency-downshifted (Stokes) light wave. For most scattering angles the anti-Stokes wave is driven nonresonantly and can be n...

Two-dimensional stimulated Brillouin scattering microscopy is demonstrated for the first time using low power continuous-wave lasers tunable around 780 nm. Spontaneous Brillouin spectroscopy has much potential for probing viscoelastic properties remotely and non-invasively on a microscopic scale. Nonlinear Brillouin scattering spectroscopy and microscopy may provide a way to tremendously accele...
